Clients of the ophthalmology service:

Please note that inquiries are received Monday-Friday from 9am-5pm and are addressed within 24 hours of being received, except on holidays. 


If your concern about your pet is urgent or if you need a refill immediately, then please call PETS directly at 510-548-6684 and indicate that your concern is urgent rather than use this form. Please note that squinting is a sign of pain and often indicates an urgent problem. If your pet is squinting and is not already under the care of a veterinarian for this problem, then it should be evaluated by your primary care veterinarian or the PETS emergency service as soon as possible (same day).

If you think that your pet needs an eye exam immediately, then please contact or report to the PETS emergency service, emergency doctors are available at all times to perform exams and often have access to Dr. Zarfoss by phone during waking hours.

Veterinarians may also fill out this form on behalf of their patients or may call Dr. Zarfoss directly at PETS (Mon/Tues and Thurs/Fri) to discuss.

For non-urgent concerns, if you do not hear from us within 48 hours, then please call 510-556-4393 and leave a message.  Please note that we will do our best to accommodate your pet, but that Dr. Zarfoss has limited availability. If we are not able to accommodate your pet, then you may consider contacting other veterinary ophthalmologists in the area, including:

Please note that if your pet has not been seen within one year, then Dr. Zarfoss is not legally allowed to refill the medication (another vet who has seen your pet within one year may be able to refill). If your pet has not been seen within the recheck interval that Dr. Zarfoss has recommended, then it is difficult to be sure that the medication is still appropriate at the current dose/frequency, and Dr. Zarfoss may only be able to give you enough refills until a recheck can be scheduled.


Please note that for glaucoma medications (latanoprost/dorzolamide/timolol) we do not want you to run out so if you have run completely out, please call the front desk at PETS and indicate that you need an urgent refill that cannot wait until the next business day.
